Christmas is coming, and some of the top Danish museums are opening their doors to celebrate this Christmas season. They have been decorated, the lights are on, the Christmas star are in place and an abundance of Christmas activity is ready for you. Esrum Monastery

At the Esrum Monastery in North Zealand, the Christmas dinner table is going to be the key activity this Christmas season. Here the Christmas market offers everything you can think of when it comes to different Christmas food traditions. The product quality is high and are chosen with care. You can buy everything from Esrum's own food from the region, to French products made by monks and nuns. The Esrum Monastery also has medieval activities on the program, and the Christmas cafeteria serves a Christmas bakery products.

Open Air Museum

At Frilandsmuseet, the last 200 years of Christmas traditions have been collected and is used at a great Christmas party. Here you will see how Christmas has been celebrated throughout time in many variations. The 17th-century Christmas table is decorated with good old-fashioned Christmas food and the biscuits have just been taken out of the oven. Perhaps the Christmas gnome are going to tease you while you visit the Christmas-decorated farms.

The National Museum

The big Christmas tree is lit and Christmas is celebrated with presents and sweets at The National Museum on December 3rd. During the rest of the Christmas period, the doors opens to all Christmas enthusiasts in the ages 4 to 10 years. Here you will be able to attend Christmas gnome cursus where you learn what it takes to be a Christmas gnome. For the grown-ups, you will be tested in your ability to fold Christmas hearts, while being instructed by a real expert.

Arbejdermuseet

Arbejdsmuseet’s (worker museum) party hall is decorated in a very festive way when worker families have their annual Christmas celebrations. For the Christmas party, the Christmas gnome mother invites you to dance around the Christmas tree, and candy bags are handed out to the children. In the meanwhile, Christmas cakes and coffee / tea can be enjoyed.

Frederiksborg Castle

The Christmas gnome Julian, who loves to tease, hides at the castle, and there is a gift at stake for those who find him. Christmas at Frederiksborg Castle is about gnomes and you are invited to join the gnome school where you can learn about Christmas traditions.
