In the middle of the nature park, Dyrehaven, is the lovely amusement park Dyrehavsbakken, popularly called “Bakken” (The Hill). It is magical walking through Dyrehaven and then suddenly meeting the first houses at the edge of Bakken – unless you arrive by horse carriage, which can be rented many places in the park.
Bakken is no less than the world’s oldest amusement park. Its history spans back to 1583 when it started as a market place by Dyrehaven. Here many entertainers performed in their tents and over time the place turned into an amusement park.
The amusement park is formed by its history. There are many beer tents and most famous of them all is Bakkens Vise (“The Song of the Hill”), where “Bakkens damer” (“The Ladies of the Hill”) dances and sings colourful songs. Pjerrot still performs, which is a tradition inspired by an English artist family back in 1800. The theatre Cirkusrevyen performs at Bakken, which is where the theatre was originally founded, and then spread across Denmark. In other words, Dyrehavsbakken is all fun and happy days.
The amusements themselves are great. There is something for everyone. Denmark’s oldest and most famous roller coaster is also located at Bakken, and it is fast! There are a lot of other things as well. You can try the dodgem cars, with a track in real stockcar-style.
A truly lovely and magical experience awaits.
P.S. Entrance is free!
