Kastellet

Kastellet Denmark
Copenhagen, Denmark
Many knows Kastellet in Copenhagen (The Citadel) as a beautiful green area in Copenhagen, but it is much more than that.

The Citadel in Copenhagen is an attraction for locals, tourists, and the Danish Defense Forces’ workplace. The Citadel is one of the best-preserved fortresses in Northern Europe and is one of the Defense Forces’ most characteristic buildings, as Kastellet is formed as a five bastions star.

The Citadel was built in 1626 by Christian IV and later developed by Frederik III. At Kastellet, the Johan Friedrich Struense sat in jail for betraying the King, for having an affair with the Queen Carolie Mathilde.

Today, the Citadel is many things, workplace, museum, military community, and a tourist attraction. Kastellet is popular for walking and running, and is truly beautiful. The ramparts give a lovely view of the rest of the Citadel’s areas.

One important not is that the Citadel ends where the famous walk on Langelinie begins and lead out to The Little Mermaid.
