The Royal Danish Opera has a long and proud tradition and is of high international quality. The opera primarily focus on the German and late romantic repertoire, hereunder with special focus on Wagner.
The Royal Danish Opera has its own soloist ensemble with an internationally recognised chorus and an outstanding orchestra. The director of the opera is Sven Müller who has a long international career. In 2017-18 Alexander Vedernikov is the chief conductor of The Royal Danish Orchestra. The soloist ensemble consists of 22 solo artists and The Royal Danish Orchestra consist of 40 choir singers.
The Royal Danish Opera is organised through the Danish Royal Theatre, which has four different art forms; Acting, opera, ballet and orchestra. Until 2005, all art forms were located under the same roof at Kongens Nytorv.
Well deserved, The Royal Danish Opera in 2005 received its own impressive opera house at Holmen in Copenhagen. Architect Henning Larsen has drawn the building and it is donated by A.P. Møller and Wife Chastine Mc-Kinney Møller’s Foundation.
