Amalienborg

Amalienborg Denmark
Copenhagen, Denmark
Amalienborg is the royal family of Denmark's residence during the winter and is located in the finest and one of the most beautiful parts of Copenhagen.

The castle was built back in the 1750's and consists of four mansions, that became some of the finest baroque constructions. The first mansion was done in 1754. Amalienborg was originally not meant to be the royal family's residence but was a construction accepted by Frederik V, as it was built on his ground.

The building of the castle was built by four wealthy persons who financed one mansion each. The four mansions are named by these persons; the Schack mansion, the Moltke mansion, the Levetzaus mansion, and the Brockdorffs mansion. When the royal family's residence, Christiansborg burned down, the royal family bought and took over the mansions and it has, since then, been the residence of the royal family of Denmark.

Amalienborg is a tourist attraction for both Danish and foreign tourists, who do not only visit to see the beautiful square and buildings. They also come to celebrate the royal family at birthdays and other events, and to see the Royal Guard changing of the guard.

When standing on the square of Amalienborg, visitors will see the Marble Church on one side and the Opera House on the other side. Both were given to Copenhagen by the richest men of their time. The Marble Church by C.T. Tietgen and the Opera House by Mærsk McKinney Møller.

A visit to Amalienborg beautiful and magnificent all at once.
